Anonymous said: What is up with the Cartoon Network 'hiatuses'? Can you please explain why they do this, who makes the decision, & if you the storyboarders have any input on why and how they do this? As much as we like Regular Show and many other of Cartoon Network's shows, it is upsetting to not know when the next date of a new episode will air as well as find the titles and descriptions out. Also, where is the best source to find out the upcoming episode airdates and titles/descriptions? CN is slow sometimes.

A lot of reasons. Maybe CN doesn’t want to burn through all the episodes too fast. Maybe they want to save some episodes for later.

The storyboarding staff is pretty hands off on any decision making on that end. Most of the time we get the airing dates on the CN website or from you guys on tumblr believe it or not.

We’re just artists! Not marketers or program schedulers. I’ve been to CN HQ in Atlanta and they have a huge whiteboard with the CN schedule plus ALL the schedules of our competitors and their ratings, advertisers, etc etc. They use science and math and sorcery to figure out where everything goes.

We are about 2/3s in. Lots of really good ones coming up!

Anonymous said: Ever happened in Regular Show that a scene, although it has been animated, ended up being deleted anyway? Like in, for example, Sven Hoëk of The Ren & Stimpy Show.

There was a segment about 2-3 mins in the beginning of “Replaced” that made it all the way past the pitches & S&P to final animation.

Somebody made the decision after it was done that this segment was way not cool to show to kids and it was re-storyboarded and animated at great expense. I’ve seen it and my personal opinion is that it was incredibly mild, but there ya go.

I’ll keep trying to put in weird Mordecai faces until the day RS ceases to exist but your comment is v. passive agressive imo

Good ear! Yeah, pretty much. We had “Just Can’t Get Enough” in the animatic.

So sad this joke got cut

Not gonna lie— this one was pretty draining, with pretty much every character in every shot, a few songs, an acapella version of Keeping it Cool that took FOREVER to record, and one of the most complicated mixes we ever had to deal with. See more, including more Thomas, a completely cut montage, and weird Mordecai faces on the storyboard on scribd!

Edit: Also! Here’s a blurry photo of me teaching the bass part to Mark Hamill!!!

the sound engineers must have taken the day off for the episode of regular show that aired tonight bc all of the sounds were garageband stock instruments. y’all got mark mothersbaugh from devo on yr compositional team and you still published this entry level junk??? c’mon quintel, yr better then that.

Well, allow me to retort. We recorded a way nicer version with a pro setup. It was ultimately decided to use the less polished demo version.

The Mordecai and the Rigbys - Keeping it Cool

Hey everybody! Hope you enjoyed the episode. Here’s the demo of the song I wrote for “The Return of the Mordecai and the Rigbys”, Keeping it Cool. It’s kind of a Nirvana/Thin Lizzy/Journey/Cheap Trick power pop chimera. This is me on vocals, not JG.

Me (guitar), Sean (bass and guitar), Krandal (producing and solo), Marcus (keys) and Clinton (drums) spent a weekend and recorded a hi fidelity version of this. It was a blast playing it live!! It sounds way more professional and you can hear it a little bit in the episode when they’re practicing. There’s no vocals though.

Keeping it Cool pro version

B-B-B-BONUS! Demo of horrible Grunge song I also wrote.

Sometimes I dream about that AC, AC

Cold Waves flowing over, over me

Feelin’ Hot, maybe it’s a state of mind

Think cold to pass the pass the time

Snowmen and Snowstorms

There’s not much to it

Think things like, ice cubes

Igloos and fridges

K-k-k-keeping it cool x 2

Sometimes I dream about Ice Planet X

A distant planet way colder, colder than the rest

That’s where Lord Blizzord resides

Think about his kingdom to pass the pass the time

Ice-liths and Ice-henge

There’s not much to it

Getting blasted by ice rays by

Blizzard wizards ice druids
